The Bible states that if someone is in need of clothing it is not enough to wish them warmth, but rather to be practical and give them a coat. The same goes for food and many other needs.
We realise just one coat may not last long enough to keep someone warm, but it is a step in the right direction. It is a means to an end. It will sustain the person as they learn how to make their own coat.
It is with this view that we have both short-term and long-term goals in Neema Operations.
BDC is located in Tassia, Embakasi Division, in Nairobi. Embakasi is one of the fastest-developing divisions in Kenya, and home to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
Tassia faces a myriad of challenges that affect day-to-day living, including in its immediate neighbourhoods, which are predominantly slums. These challenges have hit women and the youth hardest.
Tassia and the neighbouring estates are increasingly infiltrated by prostitution, drug peddlers and users, and petty crime. This has seen an upsurge in broken families and school dropouts.
In these circumstances the church has an ordinal role to play in shaping the morals of the affected people — bringing them back into the fold of Jesus Christ through evangelism of the good news, and making them disciples who are equipped and empowered to serve God.
